Johan Filip Sinai first outing was on
Qartoffel und Zpagettih Inc's mellow pop psych 45 ”Feeling to Be
Free” in 1969. His first solo release was the ”Tjocka Berta” 7”
released on his own label TUT in 1972, followed by a further single
in 1975. His first and only full length album ”Hur man schnyter
älgar, farsan!” appeared the following year.
He should have stuck to the 7” format
as far as I'm concerned. Several moronic stabs at humourous
songwriting spoil the album (”Stegen”, ”Kastanjemovisa”,
”Alias: Näcken”), as do the songs opting for a more mainstream
folk pop sound (”Karl XII”, ”Kaffepannan”, ”Sov gott i
natt”). The heavier tracks fare better. ”Dansa i grytan” is
quite good despite silly lyrics, and ”Bibliotekarien” is passable. The best track by far, however, is the semi-psychedelic ”Cladoutsch”
with some nice guitar work and ghostly backing vocals – an excellent track ripe for inclusion on a various artists compilation of hidden Swedish gems perhaps?
Filip Sinai died in 1988.
