ANDRA BULLAR – Andra Bullar (Silence, 1979)

International relevance: *
Swedish vocals

Tobias Petterson in ”The Encyclopedia of Swedish Progressive Music”: ”In Röda Bönor's aftermath Gothenburg group Andra Bullor arrived to meet the demand for another feminist band. Their sound was also similar to Röda Bönor's, but lacked the sense of humour and playfulness of their precursors.” There's not a lot I can add to that because what Petterson wrote sums up Andra Bullar's first album very well. (Their second and last album appeared in 1981, also on Silence.) Their sound is acoustic and folksy but the music sounds more dutiful than inspired and the lyrics are clichéd, resulting in an overall forgettable and anemic album.

Andra Bullar also appears on 40CD box set ”Progglådan” with ”Att gifta sig har ingen brådska”, which is also on ”Andra Bullar” in a different version.

Bassist and piano player Malte Krook had previously been in Göteborgs Visgrupp.
