International relevance: **
Finn Sjöberg was a member of Örebro's
Squareheads Blues Band in the late 60's before founding Kvartetten Som Sprängde in 1972. They released their monolithic classic
”Kattvals” the following year and they backed singer/songwriter
Bernt Staf on his ”Valhall” album, also in 1973. Kvartetten Som
Sprängde disbanded in 1975 and Finn Sjöberg turned to session work
for a large number of Swedish acts including ABBA.
”Finn” is his only solo album to
date and is disappointing to anyone hoping for a 'lost' Kvartetten
Som Sprängde album. Only album highlights ”Gånglåt från
Barrstigen” (clearly alluding to Kvartetten's "Gånglåt från Valhallavägen") and ”I Fatimas hand” have some strains suggesting
Sjöberg's acclaimed past – the lion's share of ”Finn”
is in a softer unimpressive jazz rock vein.

Clearly, considering your amount of freetime you havent been able to wash your ears clean properly. Of course this will not be another Kattvals but its a great listen in its own right but who wants every new album to sound just like the previous? Does King crimson from 1969 sound the same in 1977? But I understand this is not progressiv enough for your not so well traveled ears.
ReplyDeleteYou obviously haven't read much of the blog saying my ears are not "well travelled". I dare say I've heard more music of extremely different kinds than most people. And my ears are perfectly clean, thank you. But I still don't think this is a very good album. Opinions differ, and you have to live with that fact, whether you like it or not.
